Honest Scrap Award (July 15 & Sept. 16, 2009)
I’m deeply honored to have received the Honest Scrap Award from A Horse and a Half. It means even more a lot that OnTheBit presented this award to me. She was the first one in the equine blogging community to welcome me and comment on a post. Again a heartfelt thanks.
MysticFish over at One Cocoa Bean has also presented me with this award. I’m truly honored. Thank you.

In accordance with the award rules I have to do the following:
- Let you all know who gave me this award. (Done.)
- Tell you 10 things about me you didn’t know before. (OKAY. It’s taking me a while to write and re-write this. How much should I reveal? Somethings are better left as mysteries but you asked. So…)
- Pass this award along to 10 other blogs. (That’s hard. Some of them have already received this award or are professional sites that I wouldn’t think of sending it to. OK, I admit that I thought about but I won’t do it.)
Things about me you didn’t know before
- I’m a Mac not a PC.
- I’m a perfectionist. This could work in my favor with dressage. Right now I think it’s the root of all evil and the source of much frustration. Perfectionism that is.
- According to my family I’m a neat freak. I agree that I like to be neat and have everything in it’s place. I don’t think I’m a freak about it. I’ve learned to let things slide or I’d never leave the house.
- I’m impatient. Enough said.
- I’ve adopted two dogs over the last five years. Bella is a 5 year old Chocolate Labrador Retriever. We adopted her as a 5 month old puppy. Her original family couldn’t keep her because of allergies. Bella’s a typical high energy Lab (I think she feeds off me) and a bit of a bone head. Almost two years ago we adopted Wanda. She’s a 7 year old Golden Retriever with medical issues. Wanda was a guide dog before she came to live with us. She was retired because of vision impairment. In addition to that she had just been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Unfortunately, it wasn’t caught quickly enough and it caused kidney disease. I’m happy to say that she’s now medication free!
- My mother was diagnosed with pulmonary fibroids a year ago. The doctors gave her 3-5 years to live. She also has Lupus, Sjogrens and diabetes. My mother rode horses as a teenager so she understands my passion.
- I asked my husband out and we just celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary.
- I don’t like the water. If I actually go swimming (it has to be really hot) my family marks it down on the calendar. Nearly drowning twice may have something to do with it.
- uh… I have a BFA in Graphic Design. The majority of my career has been in magazine or textbook publishing where I held positions as a production artist, designer, associate art director and freelancer. Currently, I work in a production capacity for a major fashion retailer. I help to create catalogs, store signs, emails, website, etc. The 10 minute commute rocks!
- I grew up in a his, hers and their’s family. I have a stepfather and stepbrother and a younger half-sister. In my mind the step and half thing doesn’t exist. I’ve known them for my entire life. They’re quite simply my father, brother and sister. Family.
Pass it along to 10 other blogs
The others have already received the award or are professional blog sites that probably won’t accept it.
Please stop by and introduce yourself if I haven’t had the pleasure yet.

Thanks so much – I’m honored! Thanks for sharing about yourself – it’s always fun to learn about people whose blogs we read. Perfectionism . . . ah, yes, there I can sympathize – I’ve modulated it over the years but it’s still there, lurking!

You’re welcome! Perfectionism…I’m slowly trying to lower my standards and then things become more attainable. Leading to less frustration and still appeals to my desire for perfection. Boy, that was convoluted.

Hi.
I just started my blog on dressage and found yours and was happy to find another struggling adult. I listened to your radio interview and related to every word.
I started riding again when I was 40 after 20 years. I’m now 50 and still slogging away like you. I decided to write about adults because there a bunch of new “older” ladies at my barn. I’ve only written 5 posts but please visit me.

Hi Janice, Thanks for stopping by. Isn’t it wonderful when we realize that we aren’t alone? I think that the over 40 crowd is the bread & butter of the dressage industry. We have to stick together. I just visited your blog and noticed that we have quite a few things in common. Good luck with it!
